Tony winning actress Phylicia Rashad, who appeared in Blue’s original productions in 2000 and 2001, will direct the previously announced new staging at Harlem’s Apollo Theater.Newly announced cast members include Alan H. Green (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) as Blue, Gabriel Brown (A Raisin in the Sun) as adult Reuben Clark, Chauncey Chestnut (Peter Pan & Wendy) as young Reuben Clark, Brandon Micheal Hall (The Mayor) as Sam Clark III, Esau Pritchett (Curse of the Starving Class) as Sam Clark Jr. and newcomer Alicia Stith as La Tonya Dinkins. They will appear alongside the previously announced Tony winner Leslie Uggams as Tillie Clark and Emmy winner Lynn Whitfield as Peggy Clark.Blue explores the complexities of identity and trust behind the carefully constructed façade of the Clarks, a socially prominent family that is struggling with the legacy and pitfalls of their own good fortune. Infused with a searing jazz and soul score, the show celebrates the love and spirit of a family coming to terms with itself.Performances are set to begin April 27 with an opening night set for May 10.
