LocalNews 3 charges against Kurt James ‘struck off’ court list by: Dominica Vibes News – January 19, 2016 Kurt ‘Shabba’ JamesThree (3) sexual charges against Kurt ‘Shabba’ James have been officially struck off the High Court of Justice Criminal clause list following confirmation of his death by Police Commissioner of the Antigua and Barbuda Police Force.The disclosure was made by Director of Public Prosecutions, Evelina Baptiste at the High Court of Justice on Tuesday 19 January 2016.At the opening of the January Criminal Session, an arrest warrant was reinforced for James as Baptiste informed the court that she had unconfirmed information that James had met his death in Antigua.“Official confirmation of his death has been transmitted through the Commissioner of Police, who received confirmation from the Commissioner of Police in Antigua and Barbuda,” Baptiste told the court.Baptiste told the court that a report entitled ‘Notification of Cause of Death’ confirmed that the defendant died in Antigua on 3 January 2016.The document, Baptiste said, “shows that an autopsy, which will indicate the cause of death, is pending”. Baptiste therefore made an application to have the charges of unlawful sexual intercourse, unlawful sexual connection and indecent assault be struck out from the criminal clause list.The application was granted by Justice Errol Thomas.James was reportedly shot by Antiguan police officers, while they were in the process of executing a search warrant at a Carlisle Estate apartment about 10:00am on Sunday 3 January 2016, having acted on critical “tight lipped” intelligence.According to reports from Antiguan media, having been confronted with gunshots by James, the lawmen returned fire and he was shot during in the process. James was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.It was also reported by Antiguan media that two firearms; a .380 Pistol and a 9mm Pistol, as well as a number of ammunition, were recovered from the scene, along with several other items deemed to be useful to police investigations.last_img
