UWF Volleyball Improves To Season-Best No. 17 Nationally

first_imgAVCA DII TOP 25 RANKINGSLIVE VIDEO: NCAA SELECTION SHOWLEXINGTON, Ky. – University of West Florida volleyball (28-6) moved up in the latest AVCA Division II Top 25 poll, checking in at a season-best No. 17 nationally. West Florida won its seventh GSC title on Sunday, taking the conference tournament final 3-0 over North Alabama.The Argos have not dropped a match since falling to Palm Beach Atlantic Oct. 14 at the GSC-SIAC Crossover in Birmingham, Ala. The team has not dropped a set since defeating West Alabama 3-1 Oct. 21. The Argos had been ranked No. 19 last week and No. 20 in each of the two weeks prior. West Florida has also been ranked third in the South Region each of the last three weeks. This marks the seventh consecutive week that the Argos have been ranked in the AVCA Division II Top 25.California Baptist topped this week’s poll, receiving 27 first-place votes. Palm Beach Atlantic is the South Region’s highest-ranked team at No. 9. UWF is the only GSC team to appear in this week’s Top 25. UWF volleyball earned plenty of postseason recognition early last week as Melissa Wolter was named GSC Coach of the Year, Logan Kael was selected as the GSC Co-Freshman of the Year, and Monique StCyr, Rachel Neblett, Jordyn Poppen and Nadine Williams earned All-GSC honors.The University of West Florida volleyball program claimed its seventh Gulf South Conference championship with a 3-0 sweep of North Alabama in the UWF Field House Sunday afternoon. The victory was one of the team’s most impressive efforts of the season. The Argos piled up 13 blocks and hit .364 as a team to earn the title. The Argos defeated Shorter 3-0 in the tournament’s semifinal round.UWF will begin play in the NCAA Division II Regionals beginning Nov. 30. The NCAA Selection Show is tonight at 6:30 p.m. CT. The show can be streamed live at ncaa.com/championships.The No. 1 ranked team in the region will host the 8-team NCAA South Region Tournament, Nov. 30-Dec. 2.
